Shaving is something many men do on a daily basis. It's also an activity that not a lot of men look forward to. Getting a close shave can be a challenge, and the attempt to do it can result in irritation of the skin. Some of the toughest areas to shave can require several attempts to remove the hair with a blade or an electric razor. This repetitive action can increase the inflammation of the skin during and after a shave.
Shaving Lotion vs. Shaving Cream
Shaving lotions are a much better option for men with sensitive skin than shaving creams. The lotion has more of the chemicals to soothe the skin. This increased surface contact of the lotion adds to the comforting action between the lotion and skin. The shaving cream is filled with air and lifts a lot of the active soothing ingredients away from the skin. When using shaving cream, you end up removing much more of the cream, reducing the interaction with your skin that would soothe any inflammation or burning.
Shaving Brush
One of the biggest challenges when shaving is getting all of the hairs on your neck to stand up away from the skin, making them easier to shave. When applying shaving lotion or cream with your hands, you actually force these hairs down. But a shaving brush lifts your neck hairs as you use it to apply the lotion or shaving cream. This makes the hairs easier to cut with your razor. It will also eliminate the need to shave one area multiple times.
Aftershave
Aftershave does two things. One, it helps soothe and moisturize the skin. The burn you feel after shaving is because the skin is both irritated and dry. Moisturizers help reduce that pain. The alcohol in the aftershave serves as a type of disinfectant and helps avoid the risk of inflammation due to bacteria interacting with the open pores of the skin.
